As cardiovascular disease prevalence continues to decrease in the United States as does cardiovascular surgical procedures, the aging of the population brings an increase in the prevalence of heart failure and atrial fibrillation. A new hybrid procedure for the treatment of atrial fibrillation shows great promise. More randomized clinical trials are needed.
