Atrial fibrillation is one of the most common types of heart rhythm disturbances in humans. The "Maze III" procedure is considered to be one of the most effective methods of surgical treatment for atrial fibrillation. It is performed with a "cut and sew" technique using median sternotomy and cardiopulmonary bypass. Though due to its clinical complexity the classic "Maze III" surgery is seldom performed in clinical practice, the evaluation of the long-term results is significantly important to define the need to create new surgical methods of treatment for AF based on the success of the classic technique. The clinical case of successful surgical treatment for atrial fibrillation with the follow-up of more than 18 years is presented in the article.
